This is the first and most important (and exciting) part of this week’s update.
You can buy the ebook of Eden’s Alternative to Appeasement from the kobo store here: https://www.kobo.com/gb/en/ebook/eden-s-alternative-to-appeasement . It should also be going live shortly on other ebook sites — most notably Amazon — over the next week or so. We’ll certainly mention in future updates as it starts appearing in other major outlets.
I mentioned last week that we’re considering making the pdf file of the book available from our own website, and I’d welcome feedback on whether this is something people would like to see. Whereas the ebook is a dynamic version of the text that reflows to fit the screen of your e-reader, the pdf file is an exact facsimile of the print book, with fixed page layouts. Because we’d be selling this directly and with no shipping costs we’d be able to set the price substantially lower than the fully-functional ebook. I’ll have more news on this in the coming weeks if we decide to go ahead.
So where’s the print version? Weren’t you expecting to have a copy in your hands by now?
Alas, sometimes things do not run entirely to schedule as planned. I was very conscious when I started writing weekly updates on the production of this book, that it would expose every little niggle and hold up in the process. As my objective was to provide an ongoing and honest insight into both the timeline and the key events along the way, I felt this “risk” was actually an important part of being transparent.
The specifics of why we’re a little held up on the print books are quite mundane. In short, after having finalised and approved our print files, and having just placed our orders for initial copies, I received a notification that there was a technical error in our book file. While this was simple enough to resolve, the backward and forward messaging required to confirm the nature of the issue, fix it and then receive the new “final” book file and approve it ended up taking virtually a whole week.
The good news is that we are now roughly where we thought we were a week ago. My order for a “check” copy of the print book is being processed and should be with me by early next week. Hopefully before I write next week’s update! Then it comes down to whether Malcolm and I are happy with how the print book has turned out. We don’t know what we don’t know, but we’re optimistic it will be ready for us to start selling.
I very much hope we’ll have more exciting news for you next week!
